Hi Movers,

Happy weekend! Hope you had a good week. Let’s start with a gigantic rest in peace to Roger Ebert, esteemed journalist and Chicago-Sun Times film critic who lost a long battle with cancer this week. He was 70-years-old but always never cease to provide riveting film reviews and entertaining dialogue on Twitter and his blog.

The New York Times featured a lovely obituary on Ebert. Read here:

Moves celebrated its sixth annual Personal Chef Competition on Thursday, April 4. The competition took place at the prestigious James Beard House in the West Village as it does every year. Three news anchors were paired with three chefs and each team had 30 minutes to create a starter, a main and a desert. The best part? They had no idea what they were cooking with until they stepped into the kitchen!

This year, Pix 11’s Dr. Steve Salvatore was paired with NYC’s Suenos’s Executive Chef Sue Torres. Univision’s Birmania Rios was paired with BLT Bar & Grill Executive Chef David Craine and Fox 5’s Steve Lacy cooked with CulinAriane Executive Chef Ariane Duarte.

The teams had a blast in the kitchen. Each of the chefs put their fellow anchor teammate to work – chopping, grating, seasoning etc. Fairway foods provided the freshest and most delicious ingredients, ranging from fruits and veggies, to spices and fish. Hammerstahl Cutlery supplied the sharpest and shiniest knives and G.H. Mumm donated some very fine bubbly. And major props to Lenox for providing all the pristine plateware, flatware and glasses.

In between each round, the meals were judged by three guest judges – Susan Ungaro, president of the James Beard Foundation, Mike Zegen, star of “Boardwalk Empire” and the upcoming film “Frances Ha” and celebrity chef Ingrid Hoffmann, host of the Cooking Channel’s “Simply Delicioso.” Nine meals later, and I’m sure the judges felt nice and full 🙂

Moves will be announcing the winner of its Personal Chef competition at its Spring Cover Party.

Here’s a look back at the event:
