Hello, New York Movers!
I have seen the future and it is in the suburbs!! That’s right, the suburbs! I’m writing to you today from my pied-a-terre in Connecticut and oh boy are the people here divine! I know we New Yorkers like to consider ourselves avant-garde but I tell you, these rural folk got us beat. Why just the other day I saw an obese woman with a fanny pack and a carton of Marlboro Lites! Can you believe it? Sort of an homage to mid-90s David LaChappelle with a retro Americana vibe and a splash of Karen Finley for good measure!! Now don’t get me wrong, I love a good Givenchy peplum dress as much as the next person but this is truly high art at its finest!
And now for the truth: We New Yorkers a special breed, made of equal parts taste, class and pretension. Cherish it. Live it. And educate yourselves.
And now your homework for the week:
High Culture: Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike on Broadway
I had the pleasure to see this in rehearsals and its a hoot – and the New York Times agrees. Starring David Hyde Pierce and Sigourney Weaver, the play is the absolute best kind of absurdist comedy, presented by the master of the genre, Christopher Durang. Unlike its Chekhovian counterparts, this performance doesn’t leave you laughing and crying at the same time, just a lot of laughing, and howling, and doubling over.
Low Culture: This video. This video is life changing and will change how you view reality television forever.
Culture Culture: Have a milkshake. You deserve it, you skinny bitch.
Stay cultured my friends,
